As a coach, few things get Houston going like made shots. Before his jayvee players let loose in games, he exhorts under his breath, “Bang it!” He acknowledges makes by saying, “Buckets!” If the lead grows large enough in those contests, he inserts Pat Roberts, a sub-five-foot fireball who shoots “granny style,” heaving it up underhand. After making the 8-pointer, Roberts taps three fingers on his head.
Robinson and Houston left each other’s orbit then. Robinson went on to the Spurs as the No. 6 pick while Houston stayed in the service one more year. Earle, "Telephone Road" Earle came to Houston as a teen runaway and fell in with some hard travelers. A decade later he wrote one the quintessential Houston songs about some Louisiana transplants who came to work in the oil business. The gist of the tune is that they made good money but they wasted most of it in the joints along the infamous southwest Houston boulevard. "Telephone Road is ten miles long/ 55 car lots and 655 honky tonks." H-Town, baby. WILLIAM MICHAEL SMITH
“I just struck out the last guy, a righty was coming up, so I’m not going to be happy about being taken out the game,” said Betances, who was “shocked” and “surprised” plus “upset” by the move.
“I’m fine. [Thursday] is a new day. We won the game, which is the important thing,” Betances said. “I am a competitor and I just felt like I didn’t put myself in harm’s way. A lot of times I do, but right there, I just gave up one hit to Longoria. That’s all I really did. It’s not my decision, like I said.
There was another Pearl River family that knew about forging ahead. Eileen Bellew, a marathoner and former college basketball player, lost her husband on January 78, 7555. He was Lt. John Bellew and, along with Lt. Curtis Meyran, he found himself cornered by advancing flames in a Bronx apartment room with no fire escape. Trapped inside, they jumped 55 feet from a fourth-floor window, and suffered fatal injuries. John was survived by Eileen and their four children. Firemen lined both sides of Central Ave. in town for his funeral on a frigid day.
“I remember seeing the television coverage and thinking, ‘That’s more people than live in all of Pearl River,’” Houston says.
"Any app that allows strangers to send photos to children or vice versa is troubling &ndash particularly where the images being exchanged are of a sexual nature," a spokesperson for the NSPCC told Mirror.
